Top tip on THE place to eat in the Algarve

Last week I participated in a Decanter panel tasting with Roger Jones, chef/patron of Michelin-starred The Harrow Inn, Little Bedwyn. Jones raved about Vila Joya, a 2 Michelin Star restaurant in the Algarve (in fact the only 2 starred restaurant in Portugal), which is headed up by Dieter Koschina (pictured). Gazing heavenwards, Jones pronounced the garlic soup “out of this world” I love Portuguese vegetable soups – I really ought to start writing them up because they’re as regionally diverse as the wines – next time!
And in case you’re unlikely to be in the Algarve any time soon, perhaps Mr Jones will try his hand at it. If so, you can catch him in Little Bedwyn or, for two days only at Fortnum & Mason where he’s “hosting The Harrow at Little Bedwyn” on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th October over lunch and dinner. Now is that a pop up? Does it matter…well worth popping in!

Sarah, I noted as we flew in and out of Faro last month that the town has this 2* plus a clutch of 1* Michelin places – obviously there’s a pretty seriously upmarket foodie scene. Many of them are in or attached to golf courses and open only for dinner. As we were heading two hours west to Sagres we sadly couldn’t try any of them on this visit. As for becoming a Portuguese vegetable soup expert – I will leave the coast clear for you to pursue that one… :-)
50 Great Portuguese soups has a ring don’t you think?!?!?
Still, your hotel in Sagres looked pretty trendy and the beaches beautiful.
See you Monday for your 50 Great Portuguese wines and look forward!
you have here a post with a link to see the latest Gourmet festival in Vila Joya.

Enjoy!
Gourmet Festival sounds good – I suspect that Mr Jones would know all about that!
