Tesco wine clearance: my top Australian & Portuguese tips
I’m just back from holidays which is usually a budget-trimming time. Not this time – my neighbour inadvertently lead me astray by asking for a recommendation for sub-£6 wines. This in turn lead me to Tesco’s website and bin end wine clearance…. Jim Barry Lodge Hill Riesling at just over £6/bottle was way too good to resist, as was also heavily discounted Peter Lehmann Wigan Riesling and Henriques & Henriques 20 Year Old Madeira. All wines which will age beautifully, just like my last bottle of 2006 Alkoomi Riesling which I enjoyed on holiday – another bin end buy some year’s back from Jeroboams.
Teco’s bin end wine clearance sale runs to the end of this month. Below are my top tips for Australia & Portugal with links (red type) to my notes where I’ve previously reviewed them.
Peter Lehmann Wigan Riesling 2007 (Eden Valley)
45% off – down from £96.00/case to £52.26/case (equivalent to £8.71 per bottle) – this is Peter Lehmann’s top Riesling – always released after at least five years so built to age (it was formerly known as the Reserve Riesling).
Jim Barry Lodge Hill Riesling 2011 (Clare Valley)
44% off – down from £66.00/case to £36.42/case (equivalent to £6.07 per bottle). I haven’t reviewed this vintage online but click here to see how well this wine ages and, in 2011 – a super-cool year – it should age very well indeed.
Pikes Clare Valley Riesling 2010 (Clare Valley)
43% off – down from £81.00/case to £46.02/case (equivalent to £7.67 per bottle)
Chapel Hill Grenache 2010 (McLaren Vale)
42% off – down from £107.94/6 bottles to £61.86/case (equivalent to £10.31 per bottle)
Henriques & Henriques 20 Year Old Malmsey NV (Madeira)
64% off – down from £300.00/case to £107.94/case (equivalent to £17.99 per bottle). (Though the 20 Year Old Terrantez is mentioned in the clearance stocks have already gone – I’ll happily console myself with the Malmsey)!

Thanks for the suggestion. I know Lance Foyster quite well. However I have just found the Wine Society are now listing an Encruzado for £15.50
