Port & chocolate heaven: Fonseca Terra Prima Organic Reserve Ruby with Ottolenghi Dark chocolate, pistachio and raspberry brittle

ottolenghichocI left London for holidays in Wales last week on a sugar high. I think every holiday should commence thus!

Tasting 23 Rutherglen Muscats certainly helped fuel some brisk walks along beautiful Cardigan Bay’s coastal path during which, I confess, my mind kept returning to Colin Campbell’s pairing of Campbells Merchant Prince Rare Rutherglen Muscat sipped with a strong espresso coffee and a decadent dark chocolate (click here for details of the tasting line up and other delicious food pairings).

I love fortified wines with top notch chocolate!

Sadly I didn’t have a bottle of said Merchant Prince with me however, in anticipation of curling up in front of our woodburning stove, I did pack a bottle of Fonseca Terra Prima Organic Reserve Ruby Port (stocked by Waitrose and Vintage Roots, where it is currently on deal at £15.99).

It paired perfectly with Ottolenghi’s Dark chocolate, pistachio and raspberry brittle (a single estate chocolate made with Venezuelan 72% Rio Caribe Superior), especially the zingy ping of its sweet freeze dried raspberries. So good, I had to pass it on!
