Mount Pleasant 1946 Vines Lovedale Vineyard Semillon 2014

True to his word, following a recent vertical of Mount Pleasant’s iconic Lovedale Semillon winemaker Jim Chatto sent me a bottle of this limited edition (1500 litres) Semillon from “a purple patch” of Lovedale, “so you can see what Lovedale tastes like as a young, very floral wine.” Lovely is the answer.  Here’s my note:

Mount Pleasant 1946 Vines Lovedale Vineyard Semillon 2014 (Hunter Valley)

Made from ‘free run’ juice, cool fermented in stainless steel and bottled early to retain freshness and primary fruit the 1946 Vines is all about purity of expression.  Very pale yellow with green glints it has an expressive yet delicate floral talcy nose with lemon sherbert lift.  Notes which follow through on a palate of delicacy and power.  Great intensity – an old vine firmness and depth – to its talc, dill and fennel-edged lemon, lime and grapefruit.  The finish is long and penetrating; lots more to give.  11.5%
