Feeding the soul in Lisbon: fine dining at Alma

Despite the cloud over our heads (an interior “design” feature), last night I enjoyed one of the best meals I’ve eaten this year at Alma  in Lisbon’s Santos district – beautifully presented, precise, pure and balanced – as they say, cooking doesn’t get better than this!  A beautifully judged set dinner menu was ungreedily priced too at 39 euros for five courses or 50 euros with wine.

Chef patron Henrique Sá Pessoa opened the restaurant last year.  He may be one of Portugal’s hottest TV chefs but Sá Pessoa was very much present on both sides of the pass, stopping by to ask if we’d enjoyed our meal before heading home with a Tupperware box tucked under his arm.  No doubt he raises the gourmet sandwich to a whole new level!
