Angers fine dining, or not & calling non-meat eaters – RSJ’s monthly Italian Sunday lunches
This time last week I was in Angers for the Salon hanging out with the usual suspects, my fellow Loire diehards Jim Budd, Chris Kissack (The Wine Doctor) and Nigel Wilkinson and Tom King of RSJ restaurant.
There’s always an entertaining anecdote or two (at least for them!) about my meals. While the guys run the gamut of the menus at Angers and surrounds’ finest dining establishments (Le Relais, Le Petit Comptoir and, this year, their latest find, La Table de la Bergerie), I’m confined to fish and, theoretically vegetarian fare. I say theoretically because I’ve yet to come across a vegetarian option. My solution? To head for the local curry or pizza house, though this year disaster struck and, after 40 minutes traipsing around Angers in the bitter cold, McDonalds called – Filet ‘o fish….oh dear…
The upside of regaling this story at breakfast the following morning is that I learned about RSJ’s monthly Italian Sunday lunches, which have a vegetarian (and fish-eating) slant (see here for details and booking). They’re run by food writer Ursula Ferrigno and a limited number of places are available in the kitchen to assist and learn. Count me in – about time I dusted down the (unused) pasta machine lurking at the back of my cupboard!

Thanks for the suggestion. I know Lance Foyster quite well. However I have just found the Wine Society are now listing an Encruzado for £15.50
