A characterful Douro white for under a tenner on deal: Quinta de Porrais Branco 2012
Laithwaite’s Wine’s August deals include a significant reduction on the latest (2012) vintage of characterful Douro white Quinta de Porrais Branco (£12 off the price of a case of 6, £24 off a case of 12).
The 2011 (reviewed here) was one of my picks of the Portuguese bunch at their press tasting last year.
In 2012, the combination of its high (600m) vineyard and a cooler year makes for a slightly more phenolic (green) palate, with a pronounced green olive/herbal twist to its mineral, lemony, struck match palate. A pungency which won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but which makes it particularly well-suited to flavoursome Portuguese dishes like roasted salt cod with punched potatoes and turnip tops, where they don’t hold back on the garlic or olive oil – delicious!
Between 1st and 31st August, Quinta de Porrais Douro White 2012 (13% abv) is £59.94 for 6 bottles or £119.88 for 12 bottles at Laithwaite’s Wines. Click here for details.

Hopefully might show up here as one store has an owner from Portugal!
