Drinking Pink at Selfridges & D&D: an old favourite (Turkley Flat) plus a new find (Quinta da Falorca)

I’m not the biggest fan of shopping, especially on Oxford Street, but a pit stop at Selfridges Wonder Bar on Saturday (pictured) indeed worked wonders in the form of a glass of Turkey Flat Rosé 2008, an eccentric Barossa blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Shiraz and Dolcetto.  For fellow faint-hearted shoppers, check out their very tempting list of wines by the glass here.

And should you be taking advantage of restaurant chain D&D’s current special menu offer, which is focused on Portuguese wines, I highly recommend a Dão rosé from Touriga Nacional specialists Quinta da Falorca, which I recently sampled at home.   Made from 100% Touriga Nacional, the cranberry bright Quinta da Falorca Rosé 2010 exhibits gently creamy red cherry and berry fruit tempered by mouth-sluicing mineral acidity.  Lovely freshness, clarity and precision, plus it’s dry which, together with its subtle savoury complexity, made it a great partner for my salad nicoise.  I’m told it’s terrific with other fish dishes high in omega 3, like grilled sardines or salmon.  One of the best rosés I’ve tasted in a while.
