My Portuguese Wine Guide: Part 1, Vinho Verde
Last Wednesday’s post announced two exceptional Portuguese wine tours which I’ll be leading later this year. The purpose of today’s post is to introduce you to the first of my online Portuguese Wine Guides, which is about Vinho Verde.
Vinho Verde has done much in the last decade to challenge perceptions about the style and quality of its wines. It produces among Portugal’s best white wines, the very best of which age tremendously well.

These are wines which strongly resonate with consumers looking for aromatic, fresh, mineral styles – even at the concentrated, fruitier Alvarinho end of the spectrum. And they work brilliantly with food – sardines anyone?
In my nutshell Guide to Vinho Verde you’ll find my take on what makes the region tick in terms of climate, soils, grape varieties and producers. You’ll also find producer recommendations.
I hope you find it useful and please do stay tuned because there are more regional guides to come. What’s more, I’ll be regularly reviewing them to add exciting new finds from this dynamic country.
