Bar Douro Wine Club launches

Celebrating Bar Douro Wine Club

The Covid pandemic has seen many a restaurant pivot to offer wine retail.  For Max Graham at Bar Douro, it was always the plan to open a bottle shop.  It just happened a little earlier than scheduled – hot on the heels of opening Bar Douro City, which had garnered cracking reviews from Fay Maschler and Giles Coren just prior to lock down.  Bar Douro City is back up and running this month and – if I say so myself – Bar Douro’s wine offer goes from strength to strength, with the newly launched Bar Douro Wine Club.  Yep, the quarterly mixed case of six is curated by yours truly.

Just as I was given a free hand vis a vis the producers/wines for Bar Douro London Bridge’s ‘in conversation’ wine dinners, I’ve been given a free hand (within budget!) to collate Bar Douro Wine Club cases, which retail for £120 inc. delivery.  Going back, if you like, to my Oddbins’ roots, my selection includes exclusive parcels of small batch wines, fresh to these shores, some of which have already featured on my website.  Improbably located on Faial island, Rodolfo Silva’s daring project is as cutting edge as it comes and I am thrilled to offers the wine club members a chance to taste Adega do Vulcão Ameixâmbar 2018 – one of my top finds from Simplesmente Vinho 2020!

Balance – the essence of great wine

I am especially happy about this project because Bar Douro Wine Club offers a fantastic opportunity to support talented Portuguese producers, especially the small guys, at this difficult time. Click here to find out more about joining.  As you will see, quite aside from my wine selection, the benefits include a printed wine club magazine with tasting notes, food pairings and information on producers, invites to live events and seasonal offers and a 10% discount at Bar Douro bottle shop.

And let’s not forget drinkability!

As for the food offer, the Eat Out to Help Out scheme continues into September at Bar Douro City and Bar Douro London Bridge – every Tuesday and Wednesday at Bar Douro City and on Wednesday evenings at Bar Douro London Bridge. Click here for details.
