Smile! St Hallett Gamekeeper’s Reserve & Poacher’s blend a 1/3rd off at The Co-op!

From 19 January to 8 February you can bag a couple of classy quaffers, St. Hallett Gamekeeper’s Reserve Shiraz Grenache Touriga 2009 and St. Hallett Poacher’s Blend Semillon Sauvignon 2009 for only £5.99, down from £8.99 at The Co-operative’s market town stores and superstores.

You may not be surprised to hear that I particularly like the red with its dash of Portuguese variety Touriga Nacional which, together with the Grenache, lends a lovely floral note to this unoaked Barossa blend.  Here are my notes:

St. Hallett Poacher’s Blend Semillon Sauvignon Riesling 2008 (Barossa)

Playing well to the strengths of each of its component parts, Semillon (lemon and lime) Sauvignon (melon) and a smattering of Riesling (talc and citrus), this juicy, round and satisfying white works its assets.  (NB though I was sent a sample of the 2008, the press release mentions the 2009 vintage which I expect will be a tad zestier and turn up the dial on the fruit.)  £5.99, down from £8.99 at The Co-operative’s market town stores and superstores.

St. Hallett Gamekeeper’s Reserve Shiraz Grenache Touriga 2009 (Barossa)

Another well conceived blend.  Unadorned by oak, its juicy damson, red and black berry fruit and rock rose jump out of the glass, making for a vivid palate  with ever so gently ruffled tannins.  Very good.  £5.99, down from £8.99 at The Co-operative’s market town stores and superstores.
